Shameful.

I have to admit, I have been a terrible blogger.  It's partially because I have a project I am 2 seconds away from giving up on.  I found AWESOME lamps at HomeGoods a few weeks ago on a trip to Richmond with my mom and decided to paint them yellow.  They were gonna be perfect for our master.  Well.....let's just say I am pretty impatient and decided they didn't need priming.
They are wood-ish kinda. Whatev.

Epic Fail.

This is how I wanted them to look, but sadly they do not.
Not even kinda.

Real Simple

Now I am left sanding and priming.  Way more work than necessary and they still aren't coming out right.  I think maybe I need one more coat of primer or maybe I am just not gifted with the spray paint.  Who knows- but they are driving me CRAZY.  Hey, not everything can come out perfect the first time, right??
If I'm feeling crazy I'll post pics of the mess I've made for myself!

To keep myself from throwing them in the trash (yep, they look that good!) I focused my restless and A.D.D. mind toward our living room- a welcomed distraction at this point-and I busted out my trusty paint roller.  I have never been in love with the color in there.  It was a creamy off-white beige-ish color, and with all of the white furniture and accessories in there, it just didn't feel warm or inviting-it was just, eh.  So last Sunday it was time for a change.

Thank you Benjamin Moore for Rockport Gray (think I am loving gray these days or what??)

Adding just the right amount of taupe and gray to make the furniture really stand out...it makes me want to curl up on the couch after a long day of lamp massacring and read a good book.

Where do I start?

Aghhh. There is still so much to be done in our bedroom- it seems never ending.  Everyday I come up with new ideas and find new inspiration.  So it's time to focus.  Get the projects done that I can, and look for those perfect pieces to finish the room as I go, but let's face it...a room is never really "complete" especially for me.  This house is in a constant state of change and choas, and I love it.  Here's what I intend to start this weekend...fingers crossed  I can get it all done!  but.... yeah, we'll just have to see :)

1:  Refinish this chair I got at Goodwill for $14 dollars.  I have a thing for cane back chairs, and this one is no exception.  I'm thinking a funky pop of color and some awesome fabric is just what our room needs.
Maybe yellow???  Whatcha think?

2: Cornice boxes for all three windows--have to hide that new shade!

I love that these are simple, not to mention extremely easy to make.  I am not in love with the windows on either side of our bed.  They are way too small for the scale of our room, so I think the cornice boxes will give the windows that extra little something they need to stand out.

I am debating on adding some kind of detail to mine to give it more interest.  and umm, side note, how awesome is that desk?  love it.

3: Some stencil action is also on the way.  I am venturing into new territory here, but I can't wait to try it out.  I have a feeling I'm gonna be a stenciling fool!  Let's hope I don't get carried away!!!

Weekend Wrap-Up

I have a serious case of the Monday's. You know what I'm talking about-and if you don't, shame on you.  Go rent Office Space and you'll understand!!

I am not ready to leave Sunday behind and go back to reality, but I do have a four day weekend to look forward to. WOO-HOO!!
I worked on our master bedroom yesterday and it's finally starting to come together!  We have an enormous window in our room that is an awkward size, and it lets a ton of light into the room- forget sleeping past 9 on the weekends!  Since we moved in I've had navy blue room darkening curtains up that matched zilch in our room.  They do a great job at blocking the light, but I cringe every time I look at them.

Well, the mister was none too happy that I swapped those out for white cotton panels that actually, you know, match our room because the sunshine came a knockin' at 7:30 yesterday morning and neither one of us could sleep.
I am perfectly willing to sacrifice a little sleep as long as I'm waking up to a room that is beautiful and makes me happy.
Someone else is not.

I had to fix this problem and fast.
Thanks to Home Depot I am now able to wake up without being blinded by the light
(now I have that song stuck in my head...and now you do too!!)
All for under $20!!

At 96" its a bit too wide for our window, but I am making cornice boxes for all three windows, so this baby will be hidden underneath
and no one will ever know...
except us as we're sleeping soundly in the dark :)

It does let some light in, but closing the drapes seems to do the trick.  It beats spending big $$$ to get blackout curtain liners and it was SOOOO easy to install!
Not sure why I didn't do this sooner!!

I will post some pics of the final product soon!

UPDATE!!!

Here are some pics of the new shade...

It makes the room feel much warmer!

When it's rolled up, you can hardly notice it.
Don't mind the unmade bed.  Of course I always make it. Everyday.
ha. yeah right.

It all began when...

About a year ago we moved into our house, and I was so excited because that meant there was an ENTIRE house just waiting to be decorated and made into a home.  It quickly became clear that even though I wanted to decorate my little heart out, I did not have the funds to decorate an entire house.  I was going to have to get crafty trying to furnish this place.

Now, frugality is something I've spent the majority of my twenties trying to master and understand.  I would spend the last dime I had if I found the perfect pair of shoes even if they only went with one outfit (seriously, I would...but at least I have a pretty good shoe collection to show for it).  I'd like to think I've learned a few lessons about responsible spending in the last few years, and now I fully embrace my inner do-it-yourselfer (yep, I just made up that word--use it, it sounds legit).

I find so much more satisfaction seeing an old piece of furniture come to life after a little lovin' and a few coats of paint than having something store bought (I never thought I would say something like that).  It is amazing the treasures that people are willing to let go for next to nothing!  I am not complaining though- keep the deals coming!!   I have redone several pieces of furniture so far, and each piece has been more fun than the last.

Like this coffee table for our living room I scored off Craiglist for $20

It was a horrible shade of green that I painted the perfect shade of white.

I love how it turned out!  I wanted a really light and airy feeling for our living room, a mix of old and new, and this coffee table fits right in.  Lately I've had a thing for topiaries too.  I love the touch of green and structured elegance they add to a room.  I got the small topiary on the table for $5 at Michael's.

Love it.

Dirty Little Secret...

I have a confession to make...
I'm having an affair...but we're in love.
I think most of you bloggers know exactly how I'm feeling.  It's been going on for a few years, and I just can't help myself.  Looking back, I think it was meant to be.

The worst part?
I don't even feel guilty.

The best part?
My boyfriend knows all about this affair, and he's supportive

No longer do I have to hide my love of furniture
tables, chairs, dressers, headboards, he's o.k. with it all.
Which is awesome because I am borderline obsessed.

After months and months of reading some really incredible, inspiring blogs, I decided it was time to start my own.  To take others on my journey of decorating (and redecorating) our first house, reviving and re-purposing some amazing furniture, and all the randomness in between.

Until I start posting some furniture re-dos, check out some of my inspiration photos for our master bedroom redo--

Yellow is quickly becoming one of my favorite colors.

 Upholstered headboards?  Yes, please.

Welll...I am so glad I finally shared
my dirty little secret with the world.
It's been killing me :)
Keep coming back because I can't wait to show y'all the things I'm working on, and maybe, just maybe, be able to inspire one of you!!
